30 Oct Wetlands Initiative – October 2017
On October 26, 2017, our Hyde Park location hosted a second free Open House for the Wetlands Initiative, an important group of committed professionals who are dedicated to restoring the wetland resources of the Midwest — to improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat and biodiversity, and reduce flood damage.
We have often said that water is the second most important ingredient in coffee. That’s why we at Bridgeport Coffee are also committed to maintaining water and wetland quality in our Chicago region.
At Open Houses, our customers are encouraged to get to know the people who are looking out for our water quality, learn more about the work they are doing, and even get personally involved by donating or volunteering.
Whenever you purchase our beloved Bubbly Creek roast, you are also contributing to the Wetlands Initiative. There has been some controversy regarding naming one of our roast Bubble Creek due to its unique history, but we believe that both naming our roast after the endangered Bridgeport waterway and helping to fund the solution for its ultimate restoration are part of our mission within the South Side community — and we hope you agree.
Below are photographs from the second Open House. The first was held on June 15, 2017, at our original Bridgeport location.
